When a BPR Unit Publicist is attached to a studio, the BPR publicist is the liaison for the studio; when there is no studio we are the liaison for the producers. Until a film has distribution, the Unit Publicist plays a vital role in gaining the positive attention of film distributors. The publicist does this by generating press and media interest.
Specifically, the Unit Publicist will organize cast interviews and set visits by journalists while the film is shooting, i.e. Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, Us Weekly, People, etc. The Unit Publicist will also devise mention of the film in the trades as well as local papers. The local connection is particularly true when the film is not being shot in Hollywood but on location. The Unit Publicist's job is not always easy; while on locations the unit publicist will help manage the uninvited or unscheduled press and deal with it as it happens while keeping production aware of all set visits.
Unit Publicists also write press kit information (biographies, story synopses, etc.); coordinate EPK interviews; maintain photo files (write IDs, get artist approvals) and assist the stills photographer with posed shots. The BPR Unit Publicists have journalism or public relations education and experience, plus capabilities in photo editing.
Ballantines PR provides unit publicists anywhere in the world. We have recently placed publicists on film shoots in Spain, Greece, and New York. In addition, because of the burgeoning film business in New Mexico, Ballantines PR always has Unit Publicists in New Mexico
